Round 3 started with Lilchicago versus 3 Lions FC in what could be a pivotal game. The two teams sat in second and third position and a win here would go a long way in helping the victor secure a berth in the Cup competition.

It was 3 Lions FC who currently held the advantage being 1 point ahead at kick-off. A draw would therefore benefit them more than their opponents. Lilchicago had just tasted their first ever eurofootballfives.com defeat and a second would be unthinkable for them. Could they respond?

There was nothing to split the teams at the end of the first half with goals from Lukas Melaika (Lilchicago) and Stacey Cross (3 Lions FC). In the second half there were goals from Martynas Vyzintas (Lilchicago) and Stacey Cross again as the two teams had to settle for a point each, 2-2.

Only time would tell if this was a point gained or two points dropped. For now, 3 Lions FC would retain second position with Stacey Cross moving on to 3 goals for the tournament.

Bede FC and The Crazy Gang were up next and both came into the fixture on the back of encouraging results. Bede FC had picked up a 0-0 draw against second place 3 Lions FC and The Crazy Gang almost emulated that feat against the league leaders until a last minute goal.

It seemed that both teams were looking in reasonable form defensively but needed to find some cutting edge going forward. The first half would reflect this as the teams reached the change of ends level at 0-0. In the second half the deadlock would be broken and it was Dom McLeod of Bede FC who made the vital breakthrough.

As we mentioned in the previous game, Eddy Clarke had the honour of securing Bede FC's first clean sheet in European competition. He was to repeat the feat here as made sure Dom McLeod's goal would get full value and earn all 3 points. For Bede FC it was 34 games in our tournaments without a clean sheet and then 2 in a row. There's a joke about London buses in there somewhere!

Dom McLeod and Eddy Clarke were the two debutants on show for Bede FC and they were showing they were valuable additions to the touring squad.

Funfoot would take to the field to participate in their third fixture of the day. They would compete against 3 Lions FC who would be playing their fourth and final group game and the last time to put some points on the board. These were the top two teams in Group D with Funfoot on 6 points, 3 Lions FC on 5 points.

A win for Funfoot would give them Cup qualification and the Group D title with a game to spare. A draw would give them work to do. For 3 Lions FC, only a win was good enough to guarantee Cup qualification this afternoon.

Funfoot had been steady so far and particularly solid in defence with two 1-0 wins. It was they who opened the scoring in this one too with Ricardas Kulis finding the net. 1-0 became 2-0 when Kulis scored again before the break. 2-0 at half-time was a commanding lead for a team yet to concede in the tournament.

The lead looked even more formidable when Kulis went on to complete his hat-trick. Remigijus Semenas put the icing on the cake as he made it 4-0. There was a hat-trick of clean sheets for Aivaras Meskinis as the Lithuanian team rounded off a superb 4-0 win. In this top of the table clash they seemed to raise their game and 3 Lions FC suffered as a result.

Game 9 of Group D was arguably the most crucial game of the group – especially if you were Lilchicago or 3 Lions FC. The defeat for 3 Lions FC had opened up the door for Lilchicago to climb above them into second place. The nature of 3 Lions FC defeat swung goal difference in favour of Lilchicago. Lilchicago now needed just a point to go level with 3 Lions FC on points but ahead of them on goal difference.

The Crazy Gang were playing for pride. With Bede FC already on 4 points in fourth position, The Crazy Gang knew they would finish in fifth position regardless of this result. A win would give them some momentum going into the Wooden Spoon competition and they were still looking to score their opening goal of the tournament.

These two teams previous history in our events would make Lilchicago favourites. However, their compatriots Funfoot would testify to the fact that The Crazy Gang would be no pushovers. “ There are no easy games in Europe”

In the opening period Lilchicago were indeed finding The Crazy Gang a tough nut to crack. The two teams went into the break level at 0-0. The Crazy Gang had been level at half-time now in their last 3 group games. Could they keep it going or even snatch a win?

Sadly for The Crazy Gang fans it was not to be. Vaidas Garsvinskas scored the goal to put Lilchicago ahead. The game then opened up as Danas Kulisauskas and Lukas Melaika made it 2-0 and 3-0 respectively. Congratulations to Lilchicago who made it a Lithuanian double for Cup qualification from Group D.

So, we would finish with Bede FC and Funfoot. The two teams knew they would be playing Plate and Cup football respectively this afternoon.

Bede FC were currently in fourth position and a win could see them move up to third position and with it gain a theoretically easier Quarter-Final draw. Bede FC came into the tournament on the back of their best ever European group phase campaign when they won 3 out of 5 games in Mallorca to claim a haul of 9 points (but finish fourth). Third place would represent another improvement and be their highest position in the group phase of our tournaments.

It was going to be a tough ask against Funfoot who had already won the group and would want to keep their momentum going and keep up their 100% record in today's event. They started as if they meant business. Igor Karklelis became the first man to score past Eddy Clarke since the first half of their opening game. Eimantas Budreckas and Domantas Mazgys quickly added to the tally as Funfoot were moving through the gears.

Before half-time it was 3-1. Bede FC proved they also had a goal-scoring goalkeeper as he reduced the arrears. In the second half the three goal lead was restored with Eimantas Budreckas getting his second of the game. Final score, 4-1.
