The
Cup semi final saw two shoot outs between Czech
and UK sides as DHL Prague took on We Are Messi,
who were still buoyant after seeing off Dogshead
FC. AMG would come face-to-face with AFK Druhaci.
DHL
Prague had reached the semi final on the back
of a solid defence and that defence was to prove
to be the backbone of their victory against We
Are Messi. As much as We Are Messi tried they
could not break down the DHL Prague defence. Maybe
the exerts of injury time in the win against Dogshead
had taken its toll. DHL Prague, who had conceded
just 2 in 4 games were to keep their third clean
sheet as 2-0 saw them into the final. An own goal
from the otherwise excellent Chris Pye saw DHL
on their way and thy didn't look back.
The
second semi final was to be a tough ask for AMG
who would meet an AFK Druhaci team who had won
5-0, 4-0, 1-0 and 1-0 so far. AMG themselves were
in equally impressive form though as they swept
into the final with a 100% group record and a
4-1 quarter final win under their belts.
This
match proved to be an extremely tight affair.
The game saw the tournaments ultimate top two
goal scorers come head-to-head. Richard Worr with
10 to his name already could not add to his tally
as AFK Druhaci's defence held firm. Marek Kropelnicky,
with 5 before the game, capitalised on a defensive
mix-uo to put AFK 1-0 up and in control. The game
had been extremely close up to this point and
this changed the whole flow of the game. As AMG
chased an equaliser gaps opened up on the break
for Druhaci. Eventually one of those breaks told
as Kropelnicky bagged his second of the game and
seventh of the tournament. AFK Druhaci could have
scored again in the final seconds which would
have been an unfair reflection on AMG who performed
well and went out with their heads held high.
