The
first final of the day was the Plate Final between
England Lions and Sparta CSF.
Sparta
CSF on a high after their late semi final winner
started the game off at electric pace and deservedly
took the lead through Chris Le Tuck- his first
of the tournament and what a time to score it.
The CSF pushed forward looking to capitalise while
their tails were up. While they dominated possession
and territory, they could not find the killer
pass to unlock the England Lions defence and score
the second goal. You felt a second goal was needed
and as attack after attack broke down you could
feel some tension creeping in.
It's
an old adage in football that you are never safe
at 1-0 and it proved to be the case here. The
Parry Brothers again causing the damage. The brothers
finishing with 11 goals between them, 6 for Ian
and 5 for Michael. Ian Parry put the sides level
at 1-1 and the game was now back in the balance.
The
final then saw the significant 3 rd goal and it
was a comedy goal. As England Lions broke, the
Sparta CSF ‘Keeper, defender and Lions forward
all converged simultaneously on the ball. As the
three players slid in the ball ricocheted around
and squirted into the air. As the players lay
on the floor the ball landed and hit the melee
of floored players fortuitously rolling into the
unguarded net. Would this prove to be the winning
goal? Alas it would.
Sparta
CSF poured forward but as with the scores at 1-0,
attack after attack broke down before the killer
final ball could be found. Time ran away and when
the referee put the whistle to his lips for the
final time, it was England Lions who could celebrate
as the Prague Trophy Plate Winners.
