In a pivotal clash, Skidmarks faced off against Maths FC, both teams eager to secure crucial points in the tournament. Skidmarks came into the match buoyed by their recent victory over Colonel Getafe. Maths FC, despite losing their first two games, showed promise with strong performances.

The first half was closely contested, with both teams creating chances. Jamie Dewinter broke the deadlock for Skidmarks, scoring to give his side a 1-0 lead at halftime. This result added further intrigue to the group, as Skidmarks were left to reflect on missed opportunities after their initial momentum. It showed how competitive Group C with four teams locked together on 3 points behind our runaway leaders.

Game 8 of Group C was Bear Ballerz versus Colonel Getafe. Both teams found themselves on 3 points in the table with Group C delicately poised. For Colonel Getafe, this was their last group game and their final chance to stake their claim for a place in the Cup. Having gone 11 group games unbeaten, they had now lost their last two so were in the unfamiliar position of having to recover from defeats. Bear Ballerz had a game in hand on all their rivals in Group C so they could put themselves in pole position for Cup qualification themselves with a victory here.

Bear Ballerz, coming off a solid 2-0 victory, looked to build on their momentum, hit the front. The first half saw Bear Ballerz take the lead, with Thomas Ricaux continuing his impressive performance by scoring the opening goal, marking his fifth goal of the tournament. The win for Colonel Getafe not only boosted their confidence but also added further intrigue to the tightly contested group standings.

Football Rangers Hungary were top of the table with 3 wins from 3. If they could win this game they would be the only team to win all 4 of their group games. 5ive Guys (Group A) and Milner Street (Group B) had both failed to do so having drawn their final group game after 3 successive wins. All 5 teams in Group C still had a chance to qualify for the Cup. Maths FC had the hardest task because they were 5th on goal difference and had the toughest opposition. If we were to see them in the Cup it would take a monumental effort here.

The “home” side quickly established their dominance, with Dominik Bodnar opening the scoring to put Football Rangers Hungary ahead 1-0. As the first half concluded, Football Rangers Hungary maintained their lead, going into halftime with a 1-0 advantage. The momentum continued into the second half, where Tamas Rozsa further extended their lead to 2-0. Dominik Bodnar then struck again, netting his second goal of the match and making it 3-0 for Football Rangers Hungary. The Hungarian side's clinical finishing and solid defence kept Maths FC at bay throughout the match and made them formidable opponents in this tournament. As the final whistle blew, the scoreline stood at 3-0, marking a comprehensive victory for Football Rangers Hungary. This result installed them as the #1 ranked team from the group phase as they qualified for the Cup in style. For Maths FC, it had been a tough group but they would have a fresh start in the afternoon Plate competition.

The final match in Group C and the Group Phase as a whole was Skidmarks versus Bear Ballerz. A lot was riding on this game for both teams in this match but also the other third placed teams from Groups A and B.

In Group A the third placed teams was RAF with 6 points and a goal difference of 8-4. In Group B it was G.D. Leoes da Guarda on 6 points with a goal difference of 5-4. The winner here would move onto 6 points level with Colonel Getafe (7-7). At the start of play Skidmarks had a goal difference of 3-6 so they would have to win by 4 goals to qualify in second place. If they won by 3 they would finish third but be the third best third placed team. Any win for Bear Ballerz would see them move into second position and eliminate Colonel Getafe from the Cup as they would drop to third but Colonel Getafe would then be the third best third placed team. Should the match finish in a draw then Colonel Getafe would qualify for the Cup in second place but both Skimarks and Bear Ballerz would progress to the Plate.

We reached half-time in this game and everything was still on a knife-edge. The two teams were locked together at 0-0. In the second half the deadlock was broken and it was Bear Ballerz who were celebrating. Thomas Ricaux was the man on target with his sixth goal of the tournament. Skidmarks then spoiled the Bear Ballerz party as Rupert Harvey levelled for the English team. It was a goal that was unlikely to benefit Skidmarks hopes with the time available and them needing a further three goals. However, it was a hammer blow to Bear Ballerz and a goal that would benefit Colonel Getafe and G.D. Leoes da Guarda.

The match would finish all square at 1-1 with the result helping neither team in the overall context of the tournament but was a good result in isolation. Both teams would go to the Plate as we completed our Quarter-Final line-ups in both the Cup and Plate competitions.
