Both
Shock Soc and the Cobalt Silver Foxes had entered
two squads into the tournament and now one of
those squads from each club would contest the
final.
CSF1
had been gaining in strength as the tournament
developed while Shock Soc 0.5 had overcome tough
hurdles in Hutnik Krakow Old Boys and Aint Got
A Clue. With each of their ‘sister' squads manning
the touchlines the final was played in a fantastic
atmosphere. Both teams had played in the 2007
event and a friendly rivalry had developed.
As
the game went on the chants got louder and even
the narrowest miss was met with cheers of “How
wide/high do you want the goal”. The game was
played in a great spirit and was a fitting climax
to a great Plate Competition.
CSF1
must have felt they should have won the 2007 Prague
Trophy Plate but when 1-0 up they missed chance
after chance before slipping up to a 2-1 defeat
to the England Lions. There was to be no mistake
this time round though as further goals from Zamora
and Thomas put the CSF in command. It was also
good from a neutral perspective to see Ross Bowman
score after a good tournament. In fact, Bowman
scored the second goal which proved to be decisive.
Steve
Bryden will remember the goal he scored in the
final but it was not enough to inspire Shock Soc
to glory. The Shock Soc can look back on this
tournament with pride and came so close. We are
sure Shock Soc will be back next year and can
they go one step further in 2009.
Congratulations
to the CSF for their first silverware and third
time lucky for them after the 2007 Krakow and
Prague Trophies.
