The
2008 Krakow Trophy Final would be contested by
Red Light Runners of Scotland against Complex
of Poland. Both teams had performed well to reach
this stage in what was a very strong competition.
Red
Light Runners looked the fitter of the two teams
and this may have proved one match too far for
them particularly after the energy extended in
a particularly tough contest against Atlant Opole
in the semi-finals.
Red
Light Runners were oozing confidence and quietly
going about their business and they approached
the final in much the same way as the rest of
the tournament. The Scottish side were always
in the ascendancy and took control early in the
game. They played with possession, pace and dictated
the style of the game as they gradually ran their
opponents down.
As
Complex bowed under the pressure the chances began
to come and with their forwards in such fine form
they would not need too many to find the back
of the net.
As
the game drew on Red Light Runners closed out
the game in clinical fashion with goals from Declan
Docherty (11 for the tournament), Steven Doherty
(10 for the tournament) and a double from Alan
Ritchie taking his tournament tally to 5.
If
we are talking goalscorers then we can not forget
Marek Budka who scored again in the final. His
goals alone were not enough as Complex found themselves
on the wrong end of a 4-1 result when the referee's
final whistle blew to bring the curtain down on
the 2008 Krakow Trophy.
Congratulations
to Marek Budka – Golden Boot winner with 13 goals
(a eurofootballfives.com record).
Bigger
congratulations to Red Light Runners. A stunning
performance to win the 2008 Krakow Trophy which
we are sure will be the first of many in Europe
.
