The
first semi-final saw Over Crusaders and Exiles
take the field both on the back of their first
wins of the tournament knowing they were one game
away from a European final.
With
both teams finding their form at the business
end of the tournament the stakes were high and
a determined performance at this stage would have
real rewards. Over Crusaders seemed to have recaptured
their goal-scoring form of their first game (8-8
versus Jays Carconect) much to the exasperation
of Exiles. Over Crusaders found the back of the
net on six occasions. Justin Hoggett of Exiles
tried to counter this with two goals of his own
but ultimately Over Crusaders proved too much
on the day and ran out 6-2 winners to qualify
for the final.
So
who would they play in the 2008 Amsterdam Fives
Plate Final?
A
fascinated match awaited between Northern Ireland
's Jordans Town, who were improving as the day
went on, against Amsterdamse Bos of Holland whose
form was gradually fading. Momentum is often crucial
in these tournaments and this was definitely with
Jordans Town.
Amsterdamse
Bos proved to have no answer to their opposition
as they conceded four goals to the Northern Irish.
Michael Cooke scored a brace to take his tournament
tally to 5 goals and further goals for Michael
and Daniel Carlin plus a consolation for Amsterdamse
Bos meant the final whistle blew with the score
at 4-1.
We
now knew the two teams who would contest the first
ever Amsterdam Fives Plate title.
