The
final of the 2008 Amsterdam Fives would be contested
by Over Crusaders and Jordans Town. You may recall
that these teams met each other in the morning
phase in Group B. Since then both teams had plotted
their paths through the Plate Quarter-Finals and
Semi-Finals to set up a rematch in the final.
In
the group game Over Crusaders had succumbed to
a Michael Cooke goal in a 1-0 defeat. Since then,
Over Crusaders had remained unbeaten and secured
two solid victories. Jordans Town had been on
a similar run, losing to Olympic Phil Babb in
their final group game, but then producing two
solid victories.
To
the neutral this was going to be a closely matched
final and that is exactly how the game panned
out. Over Crusaders had generally been free scoring
throughout the competition but could not beat
Paul Cooke in the Jordans Town goal in the earlier
meeting of these two sides. Once again, Paul Cooke
had the metal over the Over Crusaders forwards
to keep a second clean sheet. At the other end
it was Paul Mulgrew, with his third goal of the
tournament, who became the Jordans Town hero scoring
the only goal in the final. Jordans Town repeated
their 1-0 group victory with a 1-0 win in the
final.
Congratulations
to both teams for some great performances along
the way and playing out a worthy and great quality
Plate final.
