BA
Speedbirds 2 were obviously grateful for the lunch
break because in the first game back they won
their first three points of the tournament against
Team Amman B. Team Amman B holding their opponents
to single figures for the second game running.
Petra Laursen scored her first goal of the tournament
to get the scoring going. She added a second and
goals from Mandip Grewal, Kirsty Hall (2) and
Jo Santa-Maria saw them to a 6-0 victory. A result
that lifted them up a place from 6 th to 5 th
in the group and just two points from qualification
with one game to go.
BA
Speedbirds went into their next game knowing a
point would effectively see them safely through
to the Cup (although not mathematically). This
was going to be no easy task as their opponents
were Liverbirds FC. Liverbirds FC brought a 100%
records and a goal difference of +22 into the
game. Liverbirds FC were not to have it all their
own way in this game though despite taking the
lead through Chantelle Thompson . BA Speedbirds
1 fought back and were back on terms when Lou
Dutton found the net. They then matched their
opposition all the way and deservedly took a point
from the game. The game finished 1-1 and Liverbirds
FC were to lose their 100% record. They still
had an undefeated record to fall back on and were
now 1 point clear at the top from Camden Town
Ladies. A great performance from BA Speedbirds
1 who moved onto ten points in the tournament.
BA
Speedbirds 2 were then asking their first team
for favours needing their first team to beat Team
Amman A to assist their cause as they hunted down
4 th place. BA Speedbirds 1 hardly needed this
incentive as they knew a win would put them joint
top with Liverbirds FC and second on goal difference.
A result that would see Camden Town Ladies drop
out of the top two for the first time in the competition.
Team
Amman knew that a win themselves would see them
jump into the qualification places and take 4
th place back from the Liverpool Feds. The game
was a fully committed and close game with both
teams knowing what was at stake. It took just
one goal to settle it and a goal from Char Bungaroo
that secured three points for BA Speedbirds 1.
The 1-0 meaning they could finish no worse than
3 rd whilst Team Amman A and BA Speedbirds would
go into a final game shoot-out with Liverpool
Feds for 4 th spot.
