BA
Speedbirds 1 and Liverpool Feds went into Round
4 occupying the mid-table positions with one victory
and one defeat each. A win for either team here
would boost their chances of qualifying for the
prestigious Cup competition. A defeat would mean
a battle to qualify whilst a draw would neither
benefit nor prove disaster. BA Speedbirds 1 went
into the game on the back of a comprehensive victory
whereas their opponents, Liverpool Feds, had just
suffered a 4-0 defeat to table-toppers Liverbirds
FC. Maybe this had an influence on proceedings
as BA Speedbirds 1 edged a close match 1-0 thanks
to a goal from Lucy Gibson.
The
first all-Jordan derby in eurofootballfives.com
history came next with the derby between Team
Amman B and Team Amman A. Team Amman A, as you
may expect, took all 3 points but both teams claimed
victories of sorts. For Team Amman A it was their
first three points and first goals of the competition.
For Team Amman B there was the moral ‘victory'
of their best result and narrowest losing margin
of the day. The game finished 2-0 with Sam Mort
breaking Team Amman A's duck before Katrina Glusac
added a second.
Up
next was surely the game of the group phase. The
epic encounter and gladiatorial contest between
the top two. The two 100% records, the three consecutive
clean-sheets and the two highest scoring teams
went head-to-head as Liverbirds FC and Camden
Town Ladies were set to do battle.
Often
in these top of the table games the epic struggles
turn out to be tense, nervy, low-scoring games
with limited entertainment value. Not a bit of
it in this game as those lucky enough to watch
the game were treated to a 6-goal thriller.
Liverbirds
FC always held the slight initiative and advantage
in this game and when the referee blew the final
whistle it was the girls from Liverpool who claimed
victory. Goals from Chantelle Thompson , Lucy
Holmes (2) and Eve McNally saw them open up a
3 point gap at the top of the group with 12 points.
Carmel Clinton and Mary Guest both got themselves
on the scoresheet but the goals proved to be mere
consolations. The compensation for them was they
were still sitting pretty in second place. |
