The last Plate final
of the eurofootballfives.com 2008 season would
be held in Barcelona between teams from the
Czech Republic and England. The final would
see the experienced DHL
Prague Red side take on the eurofootballfives.com
newcomers of 3 Lions
FC.
This
was the third final contested by DHL Prague
following defeat in the 2007 Prague Trophy Cup
and defeat again in the 2008 Prague Trophy Plate
final. The Czech's were hoping this would be
third time lucky and the first time they would
get their hands on one of our coveted trophies.
This task would not be easy as 3 Lions FC had
found a rich vein of form winning three out
of their last four games and the last two in
convincing fashion scoring 10 goals in the process.
They
would continue their goalscoring touch in the
final through Andrew Dutton but the greater
experience of the Czech's told in the end as
Dan Findley and Rupert Baltrock each scored
their fifth goals of the campaign to give DHL
Prague Red a 2-1 lead. There was to be one final
goal though as DHL Praguesecured the destination
of the trophy. The goal went to Stephen Parry
who, fittingly, scored the final goal of the
game in his final performance for DHL Prague
Red before moving to Australia. The goal completed
a 3-1 win and sparked a champagne celebration
for the winners.
Comiserations
to 3 Lions FC who had been a credit to the tournament
and had come so close to finishing the tournament
in glory.
