Plate
Quarter-Final 1 saw arguably the toughest draw
of the Plate Quarter Final. Intellectual George
finished 3 rd in Group A following two narrow
1-goal defeats to two good sides in the shape
of Whiteley FC and SV Amstelland United. Their
reward was a tie against the 4 th placed team
in the ‘Group of Death' Over Crusaders.
Over
Crusaders should not be ashamed to finish 4 th
in such a group although I am sure the Over Crusaders
II side would take the opportunity for bragging
rights having qualified for the Cup. The game
was a tough one to call and it was another close
game for Intellectual George who came close again
but again just felt short of the required mark.
Over Crusaders went on to record their first win
of the tournament and what a time to get it. The
final score of 3-1 ensuring their safe passage
to the semi-finals. Intellectual George played
well without getting the due results that their
performances merited. We are sure they will come
back strong on their next European adventure.
In
the second Quarter-Final, Nascherano Six came
into the knock-out phase on the back of a 5-2
success whilst Exiles, like Over Crusaders before
them, were still looking for their first win of
the tournament. Just like Over Crusaders they
achieved that goal when it really mattered and
they do so in convincing fashion. The Nascherano
Six could not repeat the form of their previous
match against Zandi Boys of Rotterdam and found
themselves on the wrong end of a 5-0 scoreline.
Lincoln Mynott, David Pollitt (2), Justin Hoggett
all opened their tournament accounts whilst Jason
Bishop scored again to make it four for him in
the Amsterdam Fives.
IFC
Stella struggled in Group A against strong opponents
and would face strong opponents again in Jordans
Town of Northern Ireland. The Northern Irish had
finished third in the ‘Group of Death' and so
were strong favourites to win this one. The match
went to form in an entertaining game with plenty
of goals for the spectators to enjoy. Martin O'Doherty,
Michael Cooke, Michael Carlin, Brendan Gallagher
and a double from Paul Mulgrew paved the way for
victory by a margin of 6-2. IFC Stella's tournament
was complete whilst Jordans Town were now just
two games from glory.
The
final Quarter-Final threw up an all-Dutch encounter
between Amsterdamse Bos and Zandi Boys. Amsterdamse
Bos had started the tournament brightly with 4
points out of 6 before a heavy defeat in their
final group game saw them miss out on Cup qualification
on goal difference. They would be a team to watch
in the Plate and came up against Zandi Boys who
had suffered three straight defeat in their group.
Would
we see the Amsterdamse Bos of early in the day?
Well not quite but they still proved to have too
much for their opposition winning 4-2 thanks to
a hat-trick from Dylop. Zandi Boys would take
the train back to Rotterdam whilst a semi-final
against Jordans Town was the reward for Amsterdamse
Bos.
