Following
a solid start FC Pirenore
were looking to build upon their first game point
when they took on Anglo
Knights. Anglo Knights on the other hand
were aiming to make it successive victories at
the start of their campaign. Tim Heeman drew first
blood for the Anglo Knights in the first half.
At half-time this game could have gone either
way. Once Tim Heeman had added his second it was
going to be an uphill task for the Pirenore boys.
In the end he went on to grab his hat-trick and
it truly was game over. The 3-0 win put Anglo
Knights on top of the table and ensure qualification
into the Cup with a game to spare.
Anglo
Knights final game was against Barna
City and they knew if they wanted to claim
the Group C title all they would need to do is
avoid defeat. A draw would also suit Barna City
down to the ground as it would put them on 5 points
and guarantee their qualification to the Cup.
If they could manage a win though they would claim
the Group C title and an easier Quarter-Final
tie (in theory anyway).
For
long spells it looked like this game was going
to end up with a point each as half time came
and went with both goalkeepers preserving the
clean sheet. There was to be a goal though in
the second half and it went to David Pros of Anglo
Knights. The goal secured the Group C title for
Anglo Knights and put Barna City's cup qualification
in doubt. The 1-0 defeat meaning they would have
to wait for the result of the FC Pirenore game
to see if they would go through.
FC
Pirenore were currently in action against
Not Vernon Kaye.
They would not only have to win but hope Barna
City lose and in the process overturn a goal difference
with a 5-goal swing. At half-time they were certainly
keeping their side of the bargain and doing all
they could to make the prestigious Cup competition.
Olivier Martel opened the scoring before a Ben
Walker double made it 3-0 at the break. However,
at that stage Barna City were still level so they
needed a further two goal swing and Anglo Knights
to win. As we know from above the Anglo Knights
did FC Pirenore a favour. However, they could
not do quite enough as although they scored again
in the second half (thanks to Lloyd Jones) a goal
from Gareth Wright of Not Vernon Kaye meant the
game finished 4-1.
It
all meant that FC Pirenore missed out by just
one goal so they would have to settle for the
Plate where they were sure to be strong contenders.
Not Vernon Kaye would also take their place in
this competition. Congratulations to Barna City
FC who would join the elite 8 teams to battle
it out for the Cup.
