The
Plate for the 2008 Barcelona Fives would be contested
via a Round Robin mini-league competition with
the teams finishing 5 th , 6 th and 7 th in the
group phase meeting a second time in the new mini-league.
The winner of this mini-league would be crowned
the 2008 Barcelona Fives Plate Winners.
7
th would play 6 th then 5 th leaving a potential
final shoot-out of 5 th versus 6 th if the form
from the group phase continued into the Round
Robin. This meant the Plate kicked off with Team
Amman B and Team Amman A. A game that saw a 2-0
victory in the group stage and with goal difference
potentially and probably vital in this mini-league
Team Amman A would look to improve on this scoreline.
As we have mentioned before it is never easy playing
against your own club and friendships would have
to be aside for the duration of this game.
Team
Amman A duly completed the expected victory taking
the 3 points with a 3-0 scoreline. Sam Mort and
Katrina Glusac , as per the group game, scored
the goals to put them on the path to winning.
So,
how would BA Speedbirds 2 fare against Team Amman
B. With full support from their A team, Team Amman
B were looking to hold BA Speedbirds to less than
3 goals or even better a draw or even better could
they have dreamed of victory? They could but the
dream would not have proved reality. BA Speedbirds
2 went about their job with honest endeavour.
They completed the task and due to a brace from
each of Petra Laursen and Lauren Conroy ran out
4-0 winners.
Advantage
BA Speedbirds 2. The final Round Robin game meant
a win for either side would see them crowned 2008
Barcelona Fives Plate Winners. A draw would see
BA Speedbirds 2 victorious due to their superior
result over Team Amman B. The group game between
these two teams was 0-0, a result which would
suit BA Speedbirds 2 down to the ground.
The
game kicked off with the onus on Team Amman A
to attack and get the goal they needed whilst
BA Speedbirds 2 could soak up the pressure and
look for the counter attack to gain the goal that
would give them a bit of breathing space. The
half-time whistle went with the game still 0-0.
The second-half kicked off with the Team Amman
A search for a goal more frantic and the BA Speedbirds
2 defending more nervous but proving just as solid.
With time ticking away it would be clear that
a single goal would be enough. When the final
whistle went though the goal remained elusive
and the goal-less draw affording victory to BA
Speedbirds 2.
Commiserations
to Team Amman A and Team Amman B. We trust you
enjoyed your tour and we would love to see you
all again at future events.
