The
tournament kicked off with BA Speedbirds 2 against
Liverpool Feds on Pitch A. BA Speedbirds finished
6 th in the group stages of the Albufeira Fives
last November but were back in force for the 2008
Barcelona Fives. They were challenging on two
fronts with BA Speedbirds 1 and BA Speedbirds
2. The second team, with full vocal support from
the first team did not quite get off to the start
they had hoped for. Playing against eurofootballfives.com
debutants, Liverpool Feds, they found themselves
a goal down through Karen Quinn. One became two
for the Liverpool Feds when Kayleigh Kirlew increased
the lead. Kayleigh Kirlew scored a second to make
it 3-0 and that's how the game finished. Liverpool
Feds were up and running.
Meanwhile
on Pitch B, Liverbirds FC were kicking off their
campaign against Team Amman B. Team Amman A captain,
Sam Mort, told us that the ‘B' team was a quickly
assembled side and unfortunately it showed as
Liverbirds FC took full advantage and were merciless.
In the end it turned out to be shooting practice
for the Liverbirds forwards as Daniella Robertson
(4), Lucy Holmes (8), Chantelle Thompson (1) and
Karli Whitbread (2) all helped themselves in a
15-0 victory.
The
next game on Pitch A saw BA Speedbirds 1 take
on Camden Town Ladies. BA Speedbirds 1, like their
second team, not getting off to the start they
would have wanted as Camden ‘keeper, Karleigh
Healey, kept a clean sheet. At the other end goals
from Carmel Clinton and Sharon Murphy meant the
Camden Town Ladies campaign for glory started
off well with their first 3 points.
Team
Amman A would need to wait for Round 2 to start
their bid for the title. |
