Comets
Sports Club and The Nascherano Six began their
2008 Amsterdam Fives campaigns on Pitch A. It
was to prove a good close opening encounter for
each team to get the competitive juices flowing.
In the shadows of the Ajax Amsterdam Arena it
was the Comets Sports Club who drew the most inspiration
as they ran out 2-1 winners to claim their first
three points in eurofootballfives.com history.
The Nascherano Six would have to wait for now
to register their first points.
It
was to be six of the best for Over Crusaders II
when they met Zandi Boys of Rotterdam in their
opening fixture. The English side proved to have
just two much firepower for their opponents and
despite the lads from Rotterdam getting on the
scoresheet, the 6-1 final score reflected the
dominance of Over Crusaders II who took first
place in the group via goal difference from Comets
Sports Club.
Nascherano
Six would have come away from their first game
disappointed with defeat but not despondent due
to the close margin of the final score. They may
well have been despondent after their second game
though when they ran into a rampant Over Crusaders
II. Over Crusaders II were dominant in their first
game chalking up a 6-1 victory over Zandi Boys.
They were merely warming up in that game though
as they completed a 9-0 victory over the Nascherano
Six. With 6 points in the bag and a goal difference
of plus 14, Over Crusaders II were laying down
an early marker in this tournament.
Whilst
Over Crusaders II were wrapping up their second
victory, Comets Sports Club were also making it
two wins out of two on Pitch A as they secured
a solid 4-0 win over Zandi Boys from Holland.
The result secured Comets Sports Club safe passage
through to the Cup qualification with a game to
spare. Zandi Boys knew their fate lay in the Plate
competition when they met Nascherano Six.
Going
into the last games of Group C we knew who would
be progressing to each competition but that did
not mean there was nothing to play for going into
the final games. Success in the final game would
mean, in theory, an easier draw for the Quarter
Final stages not to mention the small matter of
pride.
At
the top, Over Crusaders II and Comets Sports Club
both sought to maintain their 100% records. With
the superior goal difference it was Over Crusaders
II who were favourites to do so. A draw in this
game would mean they would claim the Group C title.
This
was to prove Over Crusaders II sternest test thus
far and Comets Sports Club battled hard but could
not prevent their opponents sealing their 3 rd
win out of 3. The game finished 4-2 and Comets
Sports Club had to put the disappointment out
of their minds for their forthcoming Cup Quarter
Final against the winners of Group D.
The
final game of the group saw the Nascherano Six
and Zandi Boys determined to avoid Group C's wooden
spoon. The Nascherano Six have Rob Nash to thank
for ensuring that they would go into the knock-out
phase without such a consolatory utensil. He scored
four as The Nascherano Six completed a fine 5-2
victory over Zandi Boys. A defeat which concluded
a disappointing group result for the lads from
Rotterdam.
