Every tournament has a so called ‘Group of Death'. In Euro 2008 it was the France, Italy , Holland and Romania group, in the 2008 Amsterdam Fives it was Group B featuring representatives from Northern Ireland , England and Holland .

The first game proved not only to be close but a record breaker. The 8-8 draw between Dutch team Jays Carconect and Over Crusaders is the highest score draw in eurofootballfives.com history. Normally when one side scores so many goals it is in a one-sided encounter but none of that in this fixture as each team matched each other goal for goal. Both teams off the mark with a point in Group B.

Next up was the representatives from Northern Ireland , Jordans Town, to take on Jays Carconect from Rotterdam . The Dutchmen continued their impressive goal-scoring form scoring another seven to take their tournament tally to 15 goals in two games. Their defence was tighter in this fixture conceding just the two, to Michael Cooke and Brendan Gallagher , to complete a 7-2 victory. A tough start for the men from Belfast .

Olympic Phil Babb began their campaign against Over Crusaders who were free scoring in their opening fixture. Dan Andrews in the Olympic Phil Babb goal would prevent further glory for the Over Crusaders forwards by keeping a clean sheet. At the other end Alex W oolston scored twice to secure a 2-0 victory.

Olympic Phil Babb and Jays Carconect would meet in the next game both with confidence on the back of good wins. Jays Carconect with 4 points from 6 knew that if they avoided defeat they would be almost sure of qualification. Olympic Phil Babb needed to continue their good start and be very aware of the potent Dutch forwards. There were plenty of goals at both ends in this one with the teams seemingly focusing on attack rather than defence. The mentality, often attributed to Kevin Keegan, of you score 4 and we'll score 5 was in evidence and that is exactly how the game finished. Jays Carconect finishing up on the right side of the scoreline to finish the group with 7 points and a place in the Cup. Olympic Phil Babb would take their challenge into the final group game.

Over Crusaders entered their final game with one point from six and desperately needing a win. They would face Jordans Town who were reeling after running into a rampant Jays Carconect in their opening fixture. Following Over Crusaders first game when they scored 8 goals they were thwarted in their second by Olympic Phil Babb. They were thwarted again in this game with Paul Cooke in the Jordans Town goal claiming his first clean-sheet of the tournament. It was to prove a very close game and in a tournament where goals were flowing there was only to be one solitary strike in this game. The strike in this instance came from the boot of Michael Cooke , his second in as many games. The goal meant Jordans Towns Cup qualification hopes were still alive. Over Crusaders morning was over and they would continue their tournament in the Plate competition for the afternoon knock-out phase.

All these results meant that the final game between Olympic Phil Babb and Jordans Town would be a simple winner takes all fixture to progress to the Cup. Should the game end in a draw then Olympic Phil Babb would progress due to superior goal difference. They would not have to worry about this though as goals from Chris Mills, Martin Hinks and James Cooper outgunned the Jordans Town goal from Brendan Gallagher. A 3-1 victory for Olympic Phil Babb and the prize of progression to the prestigious Cup competition was theirs.
