As we entered Round 7 we learnt the news that Tottenham would be able to fulfill their last fixture due to injuries sustained. This handed Chelsea a 3-0 walkover. So, what was to decide going into Round 7?

•  Could Arsenal beat Reading Royals to avoid finishing bottom?
•  Man Utd would have to equal Aston Villa's result to be crowned the group champions.
•  Liverpool would only need a draw against Man Utd if Ipswich Town Elite lost to Aston Villa.
•  A win for Ipswich Town Elite would guarantee their qualification.
•  A draw for Ipswich Town Elite means Liverpool would have to beat Man Utd.
•  Reading Royals could still qualify if they beat Arsenal and Liverpool and Ipswich Town lost with a 5-goal swing in goal difference compared to Ipswich Town Elite.

This situation meant all 6 teams had something to play for going into the last round of games.

Lets start with Arsenal versus Reading Royals. Arsenal not only had the target of avoiding finishing bottom but a win would mean arch-rivals Tottenham would finish bottom of the pile. Reading also needed the win, by how much would depend upon results in other games but they had to get the three points. Both teams strived for the important first goal that would put them on their way but sadly for both that first goal proved elusive and neither team could find the opposition net. The game finished 0-0 and a friendly hand-shake between sides at the final whistle meant both teams would be spectators for the semi-finals and final.

On Pitch B, Aston Villa and an improving Ipswich side were doing battle in their chase for the group title and Cup qualification respectively. Aston Villa got just the start they wanted when Steve Chamberlain, with his third of the tournament, put the Birmingham side in front. Their chase for 1 st was then strengthened Harminder Seerha made it 2-0. At this stage, Ipswich Town Elite would need a favour from Man Utd against Liverpool and, conversely, Aston Villa would need a favour from Liverpool against Man Utd to achieve their goals. This game was not all over though as Carl Sharman scored a screamer late on to reduce the deficit to 2-1 but it was too little too late. Aston Villa held on to take the three points.

So, all eyes now on Liverpool versus Man Utd. Liverpool would need to produce a Herculean display to qualify for the Cup. Due to the Ipswich result, a draw was all they needed to go through on goal difference. Easier said than done but Liverpool started well and whilst having to fight hard where keeping their opposition at bay. As the first half continued, Man Utd were increasing their share of the play and their attacking threat. Goalkeeper Danny Troke making a couple of good saves to keep the scores at 0-0. As the game went on though the younger legs of Man Utd were beginning to seize the advantage and when the deadlock was eventually broken through Celso Rosario so was Liverpool 's resolve and when Rosario added a second the result was no longer in doubt. Miguel Antonio and Carl os Correira also scored for a final 4-0 scoreline.

The league table and therefore the semi-final line up was now decided.
