Group
A saw one of the clear tournament favourites emerge
in Red Star Rickerbys. Red Star Rickerbys hit
the ground running and took no time at all getting
into their stride with a 5-0 win over Slavia Cobalt
Silver Foxes (CSF). Craig Bryant started the rout,
followed by goals from Danny Williams, Drevin
Doshi and a brace from David Runciman. It was
the perfect start, although Captain Simon Pike
conceded 5-0 may have been flattering; however
they thoroughly deserved their victory.
Red
Star Rickerbys followed up their 5-0 first round
victory with a solid 2-0 win over John Barnes
FC. Danny Williams opened the scoring with his
second of his tournament. The second goal by Spencer
Turner completed the victory. Red Star Rickerbys
completed their group with a 3-0 walkover against
the Lions Bar. Red Star Rickerbys unsurprisingly
topped the group with a 100% record and without
conceding a goal. A marker had been lay down.
The
Lions Bar unfortunately failed to show for the
event - the first ever and hopefully last ‘no
show' at a eurofootballfives.com tournament. This
fact led to the team conceding 3-0 victories to
all their opponents.
So
with top and bottom sorted, this left Slavia CSF
and John Barnes FC to battle it out for 2nd place.
The prize for 2nd was a chance to play in the
Cup Competition, 3rd place would mean entry into
the Plate Competition.
The
game finished 1-1 leaving the teams level on 4
points a piece. Courtesy of only losing 2-0 (instead
of 5-0) to the Red Star Rickerbys, John Barnes
FC finished 2nd and progressed forward to the
Cup. |
